Travel journal of a three-month tour in Prussia, 1828 June 28-September 20.

The author and his two companions travel from London to Rotterdam and thence via the Rhine through Germany stopping at Neymeguen [Nijmegen, Netherlands], Cologne, Bohn [Bonn], Gottesberg [Bad Godesberg], Rolandswerth, several weeks at Nonnenwerth (or island of Nims), Coblenz [Koblenz], Ems [Bad Ems], Mayence [Mainz], Frankfort [Frankfurt am Main], Heidelberg, and Baden-Baden. He describes Cologne ("appears dirty and desolate"), ascending Drachenfels mountain, the University of Bonn, hunting and fishing, and details the differences in stagecoach horse harnessing configurations. Several times he expresses anti-Catholic sentiment. He notes, "It is astonishing how universally English is read and spoken. It quite puts my ignorance of German to shame." Inside the back cover is a list of inns he stayed in in each city.
